Our story
Located in the heart of Githurai 45, Kenya, Ubuntu Community-Based Organization (CBO) is a dynamic, women-led initiative dedicated to catalyzing positive change within our community. Founded in 2019 and officially registered in 2020, our organization emerged from the shared experiences of women facing economic challenges. We firmly believe that empowering a woman has a ripple effect that can transform an entire village.
With determination, limited resources, and a wealth of local talent, we embarked on a mission to create a platform that would empower our fellow community members and facilitate progress. Our guiding ethos is rooted in the principles of Ubuntu, where the core belief is “I AM BECAUSE WE ARE.”
At Ubuntu CBO, our goal is clear and resolute: to empower, uplift, and foster development within our communities. We accomplish this through the implementation of projects that provide sustainable, long-term solutions tailored to the unique challenges faced by different communities across Kenya.
Our name, Ubuntu CBO, embodies the essence of our organization. Just as the philosophy of Ubuntu emphasizes interconnectedness and the idea that our individual well-being is inseparable from the well-being of our community, we work tirelessly to ensure that every individual thrives, and no community is left behind.

Our mission is to empower, uplift, and bring sustainable development by fostering education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Achievements
At Ubuntu, our journey is characterized by profound impact and unwavering commitment to our community. Since our inception, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones, transforming lives and fostering positive change in numerous ways:
Education and Empowerment:
Sanitary Pads: Distributed over 3000 sanitary pads to girls in need, ensuring their access to proper menstrual hygiene.
Sexual Reproductive Health: Mentored over 5000 teenage boys and girls, providing essential guidance on sexual reproductive health.
Economic Empowerment:
Small Business Support: Extended small loans to 350 youths and women, boosting startups and enhancing existing businesses.
Entrepreneurial Skills: Provided entrepreneurial skills training to 1000+ youths and women in Githurai, slums, and rural areas, promoting self-sufficiency.
Digital Literacy and Education:
Computer Training: Trained 300 youths and 200 young kids in computer skills, preparing them for the digital world.
Educational Support: Sponsored 53 kids through secondary school and assisted three in university, nurturing a brighter future.
Community Well-being:
School Supplies: Provided school uniforms, shoes, and reading/writing materials to school-going children, enhancing academic success.
Food Drives: Conducted food drives, feeding over 300 families and 100 street children, ensuring no one in our community goes hungry.
Infrastructure Development:
Resource Hub: Constructed a dedicated resource hub where all our projects are centered, fostering efficient collaboration and furthering our impact.
These achievements underscore our holistic approach to community development. Through collaborative efforts and boundless compassion, we persist in making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we are actively shaping a brighter and more promising tomorrow for everyone.
